Dec 22 Pinoy Bloggers Meetup

Saturday 23 December 2006 @ 2:36 pm

Yesterday was the longest blogger EB I’ve attended. We’ll its fun because I’ve met a couple of new people and get to build offline friendships in the online world of blogging.

Met at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, had dinner at Lamesa Grill, then talk about the January Blogcon, and then coffee till 4:30am at Starbucks BlueWave.
In fact, I’m still sleepy….

Thanks to Noemi (chocolates), Ajay (coffee buns?), Gail & Marc (goodie bags), Aldrin (accenture ballpen), Jomar, and of course, the ploghost T-shirt I won from Yuga.

Just copy and pasted this from Yuga’s blog. He has the full attendance list :-)

Combatting comment spam

Monday 18 December 2006 @ 5:10 pm

I have used wordpress as CMS and sometimes I would get all these spam. As a last resort, I disabled commenting. However, comments can still be made on past posts.

Here’s a good technique that will disable all comments on all posts. I found it in codex.wordpress.org.

I have disabled comments, but comments continue to be posted

If you have unchecked Allow people to post comments on the article on the Options > Discussion panel, then you have only disabled comments on future posts. To completely disable comments, you will have to edit each past post and uncheck Allow Comments from the Write Post SubPanel. Alternatively, you could delete the wp-comments-post.php file, or run this MySQL query, from the command line on a shell account, or using phpMyAdmin: UPDATE wp_posts SET comment_status="closed";

A Unique Gift that Promotes your Website

Wednesday 13 December 2006 @ 10:37 am

offline advertisingHere’s a unique Christmas gift that you can use as well as promote your website as well. A friend of mine, Jayvee, and a fellow blogger at b5media had this cool cellphone cookies made by Art Cakes.

There’s also a cupcake promoting his abuggedlife.com blog.

This is a very good example of offline advertising for an online venture.

Here’s some more ideas that you can use for offline advertising of your websites.

  • caps
  • mugs
  • t-shirt
  • fan
  • ballpen
  • car shades
  • a sticker of your website at the back of your car
  • mouse pads

Any other ideas you can think of?

First Female Space tourist is also a blogger

Saturday 30 September 2006 @ 4:22 pm

Anousheh Ansari, the first female space tourist who paid a hefty $20million USD to become a space tourist keeps connected to earth via her blog at http://anoushehansari.com/. I was trying to check her blog but it’s always busy. It seems like she’s getting thousands of visits these past few days.

I wonder if she’s monetizing all those traffic. Probably not. If somebody has $20million to spare for a once-in-a-lifetime space vacation, I don’t think she needs any blog monetization.

So, it’s not that impossible after all. One can go to space even if you’re not a pilot, scientist, or a NASA employee. One of my childhood dreams was to become an Astronaut. Unfortunately, there is no course in becoming an astronaut here in the Philippines. What about you? Did you ever dreamt of going into space?

1st Philippine BlogCon

Wednesday 27 September 2006 @ 7:18 pm

What a way to start my personal blog. I’ve been using blogs before for SEO purposes and other monetization. Early this year, I started pro-blogging on a couple of blogs but I still haven’t started my very own.

So here it is! My first post at noelbautista.com and its about the First Philippine Blogcon. Few of the familiar faces I recognized was yuga, marc, gail, angelo, jayvee, gloria gamat, all the way from bicol, rico , chris with his awesome camera (i want one of those), markku, sasha.

I finally saw the famous man behind retswerx, noemi, mike abundo, ka edong. I wasn’t able to meed the others. Daming tao!

Thanks to Innove for that wonderful dinner.

Noemi did a talk about blogging with some very interesting statistics, Jayvee with some live podcasting there, Yuga about Philippine blogging history and problogging, and Marc on SEO.

Can’t wait for the next round of BlogCon on any blog meetups.
