Why The Filipino Language is Better #2 – Live in / Live on / Live at

Saturday 17 March 2012 @ 1:23 pm

Eto pa ang isang dahilan kung bakit tingin ko mag magling ang wikang pinoy.

Dahil pa rin sa pag review sa anak, eto isa pang napagisip-isip ko.

Eto pala rules

Live in

(BIG) baranggay, barrio, town, city, provice, country

live in baranggay malinis
live in barrio munting pulo
live in China town
live in Makati City
live in Ilocos Norte
live in the Philippines

Live on

street, avenue, island

live on 3rd street
live on Ayala avenue
live on Boracay island

Live at

Complete address
city/town

live at #7 Main Street, East Avenue, Pasig City, Hong kong
live at Makati City, Downtown

Ano ba yan, pro-problemahin ko pa ba kung baranggay, bario, street, island or complete address para malaman kung live in, live on o live at?

Eto naman sa wikang Pilipino

Simple lang…

nakatira ako sa

Example:

nakatira ako sa baranggay malinis
nakatira ako sa barrio munting pulo
nakatira ako sa China town
nakatira ako sa in Makati City
nakatira ako sa Ilocos Norte
nakatira ako sa Pilipinas
nakatira ako sa 3rd street
nakatira ako sa Ayala avenue
nakatira ako sa Boracay island
nakatira ako sa #7 Main Street, East Avenue, Pasig City, Hong kong
nakatira ako Makati City, Downtown

Simple diba?

Why The Filipino Language is Better – Ride on / Ride in

Saturday 17 March 2012 @ 12:30 pm

Bakit mas magaling ang Filipino language kaysa sa English.

I’m currently helping my son review for the finals and one topic is the use of “Ride on vs Ride in”

Eto pala rules

Ride in / Rode in – small vehicles

Example:

We will ride in a car tomorrow
We rode in a car yesterday

Ride on/ Rode on – big vehicles

Used for trucks, bus, ship, train, airplane

Example:

Mommy will ride on a plane next month.
Mommy rode on a plane last month.

Ride on / Rode on – public vehicles

Used for taxi, jeepney, bus

He will ride on a taxi tomorrow.
He rode on a taxi yesterday.

Ride on / Rode on – 2 wheeled vehicle and animals

He will ride on a bicycle.
He rode on top of a cow.

Diba ang daming rules?

Compare natin sa wika natin.

Filipino Language rules

Simple lang, use either “sasakay” or “sumakay” depending if it’s past or not.

MBED Ethernet Test

Friday 26 November 2010 @ 1:01 am

I got my mbed rapid prototyping microcontroller based on Arm Cortext-M3 a few weeks ago. It is an mbed NXP LCP1768 and what I like about it is that it has a built in ethernet support and it is very user friendly 40 pin DIP package. There are 4 pins correspond to (TD+, TD-, RD+, and RD-). All I have to do it to connect it to an ethernet cable, plug it into my linksys router, upload my program and run it.

Programming is done thru an online compiler which results in a BIN file. I don’t need a separate microcontroller programmer for this. When you plug mbed into your usb port, windows will detect a new “drive” (something like a usb thumb drive), and all you need to do to “program” is to just copy the BIN file and paste it into the “drive”.

Here’s a photo of how it was connected (Still messy).

I bought a cheap ethernet cable, cut one end off and connect pins 1,2,3,6 to the mbed’s ethernet pins. mbed.org has some documentation on the pin connections. Notice that I temporary used alligator clips for the connections. That will do for now until I’ve created a proper mounting board with RJ45, SDcard and USB ports.

Here’s a closer look

I’ve created a simple HTML file just to test it. Mbed has an ethernet library so no need to create your own network stack. Just use it. I’ve set it to output some debug messages over a serial port (you need to load a driver so windows will recognize your mbed as a com port). In linux, no drivers needed. In my setup it was mapped as /dev/ttyACM0.

Here’s a screenshot of a running web server on my mbed.

The smallest screen is my linux command line terminal where I’ve shown the contents of the html file. The middle screen is my com port terminal similar to window’s hyperterminal where I can view all my debug message, and finally the one at the background is my browser where I connected to my mbed’s webserver.

Where To Get Marketing Mailing Lists

Thursday 5 November 2009 @ 10:16 am

As in internet marketer, I usually had to find ways on how to create my own list. In the field of internet marketing there are a couple of ways on how to do this.

The first is usually a method of bribing your visitors with some freebies in exchange for their email address. What internet marketers normally do is to offer some sort of a free reports or a free ebook which contains some valuable information that your visitors might want to have.

It is imperative that one should offer valuable ebooks and reports otherwise, they’ll just opt-out. The idea is that if these people go through your free ebook and received a good amount of information, they’ll think that there must me more of these kind of information if I stay in this email list.

This method takes time, and a lot of times, one must create a series of emails in an autoresponder to keep them from getting out of your list.

In fact some marketers create a 7 day email course which will try and keep them in the list.

Lately, I came across this mailing list site where in you can rent out a list and send them email, or direct mail.

emaillist

What I like about such services is that I can test a database, send out an offer and then measure the response. If there are a lot of buyers in that list and my conversion rates can pretty much make some money, then it is probably wise to send another offer after a few weeks.

I also noticed that it has a direct marketers association logo beside these list which means these lists are harvested thru legal means and that these people know that they will receive offers because they opted in to this list.

Futhermore, they also have different lists for different niches. I found an insurance lists, a lawyers list, college email list, and so on.

I haven’t tried this service yet. Anybody here tried them? I would appreciate a feedback.

What Does HTTP Stands For?

Thursday 23 April 2009 @ 11:42 am

What Does HTTP stands for?

HTTP is an acronym which stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. It is a set of standards/way of communication that is used between web servers and web browsers.

Hypertext is generally a group of text/documents on a computer that will lead the user to additional, often related information through links or connections which are called “hyperlinks”. The link can be a link to another text, an image, sound file, or a video.

There is a variant of HTTP which is used for secured connections. It is called HTTPS. So if you are sending secure data such as passwords and online banking transactions, it is best to check if the web connection is secured. Check if your address bar shows HTTPS instead of just HTTP.

Phpmyadmin Problem! Internal Server Error

Tuesday 10 March 2009 @ 4:11 pm

I encountered this problem. I was using phpmyadmin and I keep on getting “Internet Server Error” whenever I browse records.

I tried resetting mysql service using “service mysqld restart”, it didn’t work. I tried rebooting the mysql server but it didn’t work either.

I later on found out that clearing your browser’s cookies will do the trick. So try clearing your cookies and see if it works for you.

Magic 89.9 Good Times: DJ Grace Lee (aka Lee Kyung Hee)

Monday 10 November 2008 @ 12:27 pm

For people who wants to see Grace Lee (and Andi9) in person,  try checking out the Karl Edward bazaar in the Fort.  She has a booth there together with Andi.  Grace is actually selling a korean fashion  jewelry line and my wife bought 2 pairs of earrings.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see Andi there.  Probably next week  :-)
The jewelry pieces were quite nice if you ask me but she’s also nice…hehehe.

For the boys only: “She’s pretty compared to her photos on the net.”  Get a chance to see the tw**s as  popularized by Mo.  (I’ve your a listener of their morning show, you know what it is..)
